KNC condemns chemical attack on Khan Sheikhoun

On April 5, 2017, the secretary-general of the Kurdish National Council in Syria has expressed its strong condemnation of the chemical bombing on civilians, mainly women, children and elderly people, in Khan Sheikhoun in Idlib Province. It leaves no doubt about holding the Assad regime responsible for the attack and refers to the regime’s use of ostracised weapons in the past.

The number of casualties is still rising

Furthermore, the KNC criticizes the international community, who was to deprive the regime of its chemical arsenal long before, and hence has failed to prevent yet another atrocious attack.
The KNC secretary-general calls on the international community to classify the attack as a war crime, to support an impartial investigation of the attack and to bring the perpetrators to justice. The UN and the major powers are once again urged to genuinely strive for a peaceful solution for the Syrian crisis pursuant to the agreements made during the first Geneva talks and the corresponding resolutions.
