A delegation of the Kurdish National Council led by its President met with Norwegian and Swedish Senior Officials

On Tuesday, May 24, 2016, a delegation from the Kurdish National Council in Syria, headed by Mr. Ibrahim Biro, president of the Kurdish National Council, Mr. Kamiran Hajo, head of the Foreign Relations Office, and Mr. Siamend Hajo, member of the Foreign Relations Office, met with Mrs. Tine Mørch Smith, Director General of the department of regional affairs of the Norwegian Foreign Ministry and former ambassador to the United Nations, and with Mr. Egil Thorsås, Senior Adviser at the Norwegian Foreign Ministry.

Furthermore, the Delegation of the Kurdish National Council held a meeting with Mrs. Anniken Huitfeldt, member of the Norwegian Parliament for the labour parties, chair of the Committee for Foreign Affairs and Defence and former Minister of Labour and Social Affairs for Norway.

In a third meeting in the framework of a European tour, organized and realized by the KNC President and the Foreign Relations Office, the delegation spoke with Mrs. Trude Falch from the Norwegian People’s Aid, a Senior Adviser in charge for the organization’s Middle East file.

Before these encounters in Norway Mr. Ibrahim Biro and Mr. Kamiran Hajo already represented the KNC in Sweden, where they had the opportunity to talk to Mr. Niklas Kebbon, Swedish Ambassador and Special Envoy for the Syrian Crisis, to Mrs. Birgitta Holst Alani, Senior Adviser to the UN Special Envoy for Syria responsible for the continuity of public services, reconstruction and development, to her Special Assistant Mr. Joel Ahlberg, to Mr. Sven-Eric Söder, Director General of the Folke Bernadotte Academy, as well as to Mr. Cobain Naglas, the Syrian file official at the Swedish Foreign Ministry.

The assessment of all meetings is very positive, since many important topics related to the situation in Syria were discussed, especially the need to find a political solution for the Syrian crisis. The KNC delegation addressed the possible creation of a federal state in which freedom, justice and peace for all the Syrian people will be realized and in which the Kurdish people will obtain their full national rights in accordance with international conventions and treaties. Additionally, the meetings dealt with the need for a return of the Peshmerga of Kurdistan-Syria to their homeland, so that they can defend the Kurdish people and their national cause in the face of repressive policies of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) against the Kurdish people which already resulted in the emigration of Kurdistan-Syria’s population.
