Statement about the terrorist attack in Qamișlo

In the morning of Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at 9.20 a.m. Qamișlo city suffered from a terrorist attack. A suicide bomber’s truck detonated on the Amudê Road near the Kasemo mosque. Dozens of civilians were killed, hundreds injured. Additionally, several buildings, shops and public facilities were destroyed. According to eye-witnesses’ reports the terrorist entered the city passing a number of different checkpoints.

The Kurdish National Council in Syria strongly condems this coward attack committed by the terrorist group ISIS/Daesh. We ensure that this act cannot frighten the Kurdish people and our activists from fighting for freedom and democracy, as well as against sectarianism.

In order to support this struggle and to protect Syria-Kurdistan from further terrorist attacks we demand the facilitation of the entry of the Rojava Peshmerga to the region.

Our sincerest condolences to the victim’s families and friends as well as a speedy and full recovery for the wounded.

The Kurdish National Council in Syria reiterates its commitment to fight any form of terrorism.
